A week ago I stopped by to meet Kari at Kari’s Cheesecakes and Bakery located in Bailey’s Plaza on Emilie Road. Since then I’m pretty sure that I’ve eaten more cheesecake and confections then I have my entire life. Seriously, I was a strange child that didn’t like sweets and have only recently developed a sweet tooth. Well, I’ve seen the light and am telling you that you need to stop by Kari’s charming Levittown bakery if you haven’t already.
LC: Where did you grow up and how did you end up in Levittown?
I was born in New Jersey but lived most of my life here in Levittown. I’m not sure why my parents picked Levittown other then they wanted to buy a house and not rent anymore. But I’m glad to say they did.
LC: Tell us about your family.
It’s a small one, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I have the sweetest hubby who helps me on his days off & a 10-year-old boy named Bandit. He may be a dog but he’s our little boy. LOL!
LC: Tell us about Kari’s Cheesecakes & Bakery.
Everything is homemade – no box mixes (no time for pitting them, so cherries are canned). I’m a small bakery and I make small batches, so many of my items are made to order to give the customer the freshest product possible. None of my treats are pre-frozen then thawed. Birthday and specialty cakes are made the day they’re ordered for which means I can only take on so many orders for each day. Orders should be placed at least a week or more ahead if possible.
LC: Tell us some of your favorite things about owing a bakery.
Many of my recipes are from my Grandma’s; one was 100% Polish and the other was 100% German. I’m happy to say that my husband’s Grandma (Nan) left some great recipes too. Three great & loving women who were apart of my life and I would never trade.
If you come into my store you’ll notice it looks like I just opened that’s how clean I keep it. Also, coming up on 5 years in business this June, I’m proud of the fact that I haven’t had one violation through the Department of Health.
LC: What do you like to do with your free time?
Don’t get a lot of free time but when I do I love finding new places eat and, of course, going to my select favorites (like Rosemary’s Grill, King George, Iron Abby, etc.). Also, spending time with my little family and friends and being outdoors as much as possible.
LC: What do you like about Levittown?
The lost gems of history that are hidden throughout the sections that not many people know about. I, myself have learned some wonderful facts just talking to Dan from Levittown Comfort.
Ha! Thanks, Kari. It was nice getting to know you and your cheesecakes. Everything that we’ve tried from your bakery has been fantastic and I’m actively planning excuses to stop by for some more. Easter is coming, after all.
